UI, OAU order resumption of academic activities

Authorities of the University of Ibadan and Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife have ordered the reopening of their institutions for academic activities.
While OAU directed that academic activities should start on Monday (today), UI said full academic activities would begin on January 4, 2014.
This was contained in separate statements by the Director, Directorate of Public Communication, UI, Mr. Olatunji Oladejo, and Public Relations Officer of OAU, Mr. Biodun Olarenwaju.
They said this was in line with the decision of their governing councils, to implement the directive of the Committee of Pro-Chancellors of Federal Universities and the National Universities Commission that universities should reopen for academic activities.
The Federal Government had directed all universities in the country to reopen on December 4, before it was postponed to December 9 to enable  lecturers to attend the burial ceremony of late Prof. Festus Iyayi, who died in a motor accident on his way to attend a congress of the Academic Staff Union of Universities in Kano.

Eagles Will Do Well in Brazil- President Jonathan.

President Goodluck Jonathan has tipped the Super Eagles for success in next summer’s FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
The President expressed his optimism on Saturday in Paris, France, in an interview on France 24 Radio.
Jonathan was giving his take on the Group F pairing of the African champions alongside Argentina, Iran and Bosnia-Herzegovina.
“In winning the World cup, we are quite hopeful that Nigeria will do very well.
“We have won the Olympic gold in soccer before, we have won under-17 thrice and we have been doing quite well in the U-22.

“So, I believe and the world knows that Nigeria is a football nation even though we have not had the opportunity or luck of winning the World Cup; indeed no African country has won the World Cup,” said Mr. President.
Jonathan, however, expects the Coach Stephen Keshi-tutored lads to progress beyond the preliminary round.
“Within the zone that Nigeria will play, Argentina is a strong soccer nation but, Nigeria is also strong and I believe we will do well,” he added.

See Nikky Laoye’s b**bs Revealing Outifit

According to her she was styled by Veronica of Vane Style and she was meant to come out that way. Her words below.
nikky_laoye_outfit_fabFirst, I would like to say that a onetime style look does not define my total dress sense. I hardly wear dresses or skirts. The influence of growing up as an only girl with my three brothers is usually seen in my tomboyish fashion style, as I am mostly a jeans and top lady. The dress in question was for my performance at the recent launch of the new popular TV network, EbonyLife TV.
It was a rare moment to catch Nikki, I must say, as I was styled in an Iconic Invanity piece off the 2013 Italian Fashion Week Runway by Veronica of Vane Style, the official stylist to Genevieve Nnaji, Omotola Jalade-Ekehinde and more.
It definitely caught everyone’s attention and even FAB magazine called it one of the best looks of the night. For me, it was a whole new adventure, one which I enjoyed and relished greatly and it totally has nothing to do with my music or message

A world 1st: 2 openly gay men become Prime Minister & deputy PM

Some people say the world is coming to an end...and maybe it is! Lol. For the first time in history, a country will have an openly gay man as both its Prime Minister and its Deputy Prime Minister. On Wednesday December 4th, openly gay talk show host, Xavier Bettel (pictured left) was sworn in as the Prime Minister of Luxemburg, while another openly gay man, Etienne Schneider, (pictured right) was made his deputy, making Luxemburg the first county in the world with gay men filling the top two spots in its government
"People do not consider the fact of whether someone is gay or not. Sometimes it’s not easy because you have some conservative persons, but there are always less and less and less. I think people vote for my character and they vote for my full party.” Bettel said
And guess the first thing he's doing? Gay weddings. Hehe
“Gay weddings will be done soon. At the moment in Luxembourg, we have to change the situation of marriage, religion and divorce laws. But I don’t think it’ll be in the next five years – it’ll be next year.” Prime Minister Bettel promised.

Is Kim Kardashian to blame for Kanye’s plummeting popularity?

Found this interesting article on Fox News. Please read and tell us what you think
Is it a "Kardashian kurse" or is Kanye West losing his cool all on his own? In any case, popularity problems seem to be plaguing the once untouchable rap sensation.
West’s performance this week brought just 4,500 people to the Sprint Center, a venue built for 19,000, meaning less than 24 percent of seats were occupied. He has had to cancel several other shows throughout his nationwide tour and drew criticism when he stopped a Florida concert after only three songs and demanded the lights be turned off before launching a profanity-laced rant at the tech staff and storming off the stage.
So is West’s egotistical, bizarre behavior finally taking its toll on fans?
“We are often drawn to people who have an ego and confidence that is derived from their talent. But an empty ego, based on a fake self-inflated image and concept, creates an over powering sense of desperation and superficiality,” human behavior expert Patrick Wanis told FOX411.
West has made headlines frequently lately, more due to his outlandish remarks than his trailblazing talent. We’ve heard the rapper compare himself to everyone from Jesus, Michael Jordan and Steve Jobs to Nelson Mandela, Michelangelo and Michael Jackson – and amid all that talk, he has also managed to offend much of the Jewish population.

The Anti-Defamation League is accusing West of anti-Semitism over comments he made to a Chicago radio station last month, urging him to take responsibility for saying that Obama can't execute moves because "he ain’t got those connections. Black people don’t have the same level of connections as Jewish people.”

Adding insult to injury, a new study released in November suggests that West’s connection to the Kardashian family may also be the reason for his popularity decline. Q Scores, a website marketers use to measure recognition, reported that West’s popularity has dipped a whopping 66 percent since he first started dating his reality star fiancĂ©e in April 2011, and that he now ranks far below the average hip hop artist and male celebrity.

"When putting two egotistical, self serving individuals together, you'll create a rather vile spark. And in times of economic hardship across the country, bragging about materialism is typically frowned upon,” says California-based public relations expert Angie Meyer-Olszewski. “The Kardashian brand is a sinking ship. Anybody who jumps on board will eventually fall. A successful celebrity in his own right, Kanye made a horrible strategic decision by engaging himself with Kim."

And while West’s highly-anticipated album “Yeezus” initially shot to No. 1 on the billboard charts, it fell an embarrassing 80 percent the following week, the largest second-week performance drop for a No. 1-debuting album in more than a year.

Then there was the release of that scandalous music video for “Bound 2,” co-starring his topless fiancĂ©e and baby mama, which become an instant laughing stock across the web and was slammed with a viral video spoof courtesy of comedians Seth Rogen and James Franco.

Things are not exactly coming up roses in the Kardashian empire either, with recent reports indicating that the show has been on a steady decline over the last four seasons and has lost almost one million viewers per episode since season five.

But according to some communications experts, West can get back on top if he plays his cards right.
“He can definitely win back favor with fans, as soon as the attention moves back to his music since he is such a talented artist,” says Elissa Buchter, founder of Schmooze PR. “The amount of ego you're allowed to get away with in Hollywood is directly proportional to success of your projects. As long as his songs are on top of the charts, his romantic life isn't going to crush his credibility as a superstar.”

A rep for West did not respond to a request for comment.

REVEALED: What Pasuma Says About His Marriage Plans

Looks like another marriage of Nigerian celebrities is coming soon. Popular Fuji musician Wasiu Alabi Odetola is set to marry Yoruba actress Ronke Odusanya, a.k.a Flakky Ididowo.
ronke_odusanya_pasumaIn a recent interview the Fuji artiste left little space for doubting it.
“Well I am in a serious relationship with Ronke Odusanya a.k.a Flaky Ididowo. If things work according to plan we might get married soon. Though everything is in God’s hands but I can assure you that we are in a serious relationship.”
Speaking further about his daughter and why he is still single, Pasuma said the following:
“I had my first child when I was 23 and by the time she was born, a lot of people thought I was not serious then. Thank God that she is 23 now while I am 46. The girl is now my friend and confidant.

Mide Funmi Martins’ and Afeez Owo’s Marriage Crashes

The daughter of late Funmi Martins, Mide, married a popular Nollywood actor and producer Afeez Owo several years ago. She also joined the Yoruba movie industry shortly. But, unfortunately Mide’s marriage to Afeez has crashed.
According to Nigeriafilms, their marriage packed up on an alleged infidelity accusation by Afeez. The actor has always been suspicious of his wife’s movement, and whenever he confronted her, her responses were not pleasing to his ear.
He had decided he could not handle her ‘infidelity’ anymore and separated from the actress months ago, despite pleas from friends and family.
“The couple has been having issues with their marriage several months back but the crack became evident after the couple started living separately this year,” a source of Nigeriafilms disclosed.
Their duo has since moved on. Afeez Owo not publicly shows off his new love interest, while Mide has their kids in her custody, and has not publicly identified with a love interest yet.

Juliet-IbrahimJuliet Ibrahim Says People Misjudge Her Because She’s A Half-Caste

Sexy model and Ghollywood actress Juliet Ibrahim, was recently named as the sexiest woman in West Africa.
The gorgeous actress had a chat with Punch Newspaper recently and revealed while talking about growing up that her major challenge as an actress is her complexion. She said;
I am a half-caste and as a child, there was no colour difference- you are just happy with where you are and who you are with. Then, Ghanaians accepted people for who they are. However, I am being told now that I am receiving more favours because of my fair complexion. It seems people now have issues with coloured people

CaptureVeteran Actor Olu Jacobs Clears the Air on His Wife Maintaining Her Maiden Name

Veteran Actor Olu Jacobs, who has turned 71 recently, explained in the interview with TheNetng how he and his wife, Joke Silva, were able to maintain their marriage for 27 years and receive the tag of “Nollywood’s most celebrated couple”.

Read the abstract of the interview below:
Meeting the Future Wife
I was having a meeting at the National Theatre and the door opened a young lady came in. I looked at her. I have never met her before in my life and I said to the people in the room ‘ladies and gentlemen, this is the lady I am going to marry’. Everybody laughed. She looked at me up and down, hissed and left. Today, she is my wife and that was 27 years ago.
The Secret of Long-Lasting Marriage
It is God. There are other forces outside that you need to take cognizance of but when you do, you have to make sure that they don’t take control over your life. You are now thinking for two. No decision you take should be for yourself alone. It’s for two and it must remain for two. You have to always remember that. If my wife goes out, and she finds out that she would not be able to make it back at the time she initially thought she would, she picks up the phone and calls me to tell me. Fine! You are thinking for two, she knows where I am, I know where she is. We still do this till tomorrow. Communicating like that helps a lot, once we are talking, you have an idea of where I am and I have an idea of where you are. I am not saying that it should be every minute calls. Sometimes just being together in a room not necessarily saying anything is also important.
Veteran Actor Olu Jacobs and His Wife
The Art of Resolving Quarrels
You learn not to pick on anything your partner says. It interferes with the relationship. If something happens and you want to discuss it, discuss it till the two of you resolve it. Why won’t we argue? I have a mind, she has a mind so why shouldn’t we argue. We must argue but as we do so, we must finish up that argument so we can start another one. We must quarrel, it is resolving it that is the task. Anybody can fight but how many can sit down and resolve it? You must finish one fight before another and you cannot jump because if you jump it will pull you back. We thank God and pray to him to continue to guide us and give us the wisdom to relate properly, and to be as fair and honest as possible. Apart from that, we just take it as it comes.
About Wife Maintaining Her Maiden Name.
She is her own individual. When I met her, she was an actress known as Joke Silva so why should marrying me now deny her and her audience her name. She is Miss Joke Silva who is Mrs. Joke Jacobs. It is as simple as that. People now begin to say what they like. They have even written that we are separated and all sort of stuffs. When she is working, she is Joke Silva but she is Mrs. Joke Jacobs at home.
The Things Olu Jacobs Likes / Dislikes About Her Wife
Sometimes, she insists on things. Even when we have resolved it, she will still bring it back. She thinks more of others. She will think of you and remind you of things that need to be reminded of. She is always happy to help anybody. For her it’s not an effort. She cares a lot and of course, we are all boys in the house so she mothers all of us. That’s the way, we handle it, so whatever we need to do, we discuss it.

Power of the tongue? Read how two friends died within days of each other

Want to share a strange story with you guys. Or maybe it's not so strange...just life! A guy named Albert Mlanga (pictured left) died November 25th and within a few days his burial arrangement was concluded with the burial scheduled for the 4th of December.

Three days after Albert's passing, his very good friend Lele Daniel Torngu (They are old boys of St. Gabriel's Secondary School Makurdi) took to FB to announce his burial arrangement...see it below

Daniel (pictured right) concluded his farewell message to Albert by assuring him of their re-union in the words "...Rest on hommie, we shal come. WE WILL COME." in caps!

Now here's the part that's kinda creepy. A few days after this post, Daniel died after complaining of a terrible headache. He didn't live to attend Albert's wake-keep. Please continue...

Not that I personally believe it, but a few people have tied Daniel's death to his confession - "we shall come," "we will come," "we will definitely see someday..." etc.

"The good book tells us in the book of Proverbs that the power of life & death is in d tongue!" one of their friends wrote on facebook.
Daniel was just 33 years old. May their souls rest in peace. See Daniel's tribute to his late friend on November 26th and reactions on Facebook after Daniel died

Bride escapes death after wedding

Scene of the the accident
A bride narrowly escaped death in an auto crash while on her way from her wedding. The accident involving a NNPC  tanker with number plate XG 321 MKA, a cargo truck and two saloon cars happened at about 4: 45pm on Saturday, close to the Otedola bridge, Alausa, on Lagos/Ibadan Expressway.
Our reporter who witnessed the accident said the NNPC truck, while descending the slop from Alausa at top speed, could not hold its break. It then ran into the first car and squashed the second one against the cargo truck.
The bride and her husband were said to have jumped out of their car.
When our reporter got to the scene of the accident, the groom was no where in sight. The groom’s elder sister who spoke to our repoter while cuddling her baby explained that they were just coming from the wedding reception of the couple.
She was seen kneeling down and thanking God for their escape but refused to give the name of the couple.
The fire coming out of the truck was put out by sympathisers as the tanker was carrying petroleum product. The accident also resulted in  gridlock which was controlled by men of the Federal Road Safety Corps.
