UI, OAU order resumption of academic activities
Authorities of the University of Ibadan
and Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife have ordered the reopening of
their institutions for academic activities.
While OAU directed that academic
activities should start on Monday (today), UI said full academic
activities would begin on January 4, 2014.
This was contained in separate statements
by the Director, Directorate of Public Communication, UI, Mr. Olatunji
Oladejo, and Public Relations Officer of OAU, Mr. Biodun Olarenwaju.
They said this was in line with the
decision of their governing councils, to implement the directive of the
Committee of Pro-Chancellors of Federal Universities and the National
Universities Commission that universities should reopen for academic
activities.
The Federal Government had directed all
universities in the country to reopen on December 4, before it was
postponed to December 9 to enable lecturers to attend the burial
ceremony of late Prof. Festus Iyayi, who died in a motor accident on his
way to attend a congress of the Academic Staff Union of Universities in
Kano.
