The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) says it
will ensure effective capacity building for the Nigerian College of
Aviation Technology (NCAT), to make it a centre of excellence in Africa.
Jules Gogoua, ECOWAS Head of Transport, Abuja, stated this during a
visit to NCAT in Zaria, Kaduna State. He added that the dream would be
achieved through collaborative efforts.
Mr Gogoua pledged that arrangements would be concluded on the
memorandum of understanding between the ECOWAS and NCAT on how to make
the college a centre of excellence.
"When we go back, we will formalise the memorandum between the two organisations, so that our relationship will be formal and we will push to make it ECOWAS centre of excellence," he said. "Also on the technical point of view, we have already initiated some discussions which need to be put in a formal way so that we can assist in mobilising resources and capacity building for the college."
Rector of the college, Chinyere Kalu expressed appreciation to the team for the visit.
She said the mission was to inspect NCAT facilities and identify areas where ECOWAS could come in to make the college centre of excellence in the West African sub-region.
"They came, they saw and they were convinced," she said. "As such, they assured us that they are going to make NCAT a centre of excellence."
Commenting on the memorandum, she said: "It is meant to formalise agreement in making the college centre of excellence through capacity building. This includes empowering our staff so that they will be able to be better instructors, better teachers and lecturers, in addition to technical assistance."
