President
Goodluck Jonathan on Friday congratulated the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria
on their 5-0 crushing defeat of the Iraqis in the ongoing FIFA Under-17
World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
The President’s congratulatory message
was contained in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and
Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati.
Jonathan, who is currently on Christian
pilgrimage to Jerusalem, urged the players to maintain the exemplary
dedication, commitment and resilience they have exhibited thus far in
the competition until ultimate victory is achieved.
The statement read in part, “The
President urges the Eaglets and their handlers to prepare very well and
hone their acknowledged skills and soccer artistry even further to
overcome all their remaining opponents in the competition and bring the
Under-17 World Cup trophy back home to Nigeria once again.
“He assures them of the fullest possible
support of the Federal Government and all Nigerians as they continue in
the competition and trusts that they will keep on giving Nigerians
great joy and pride with victorious performances in coming matches.”
